On a day that has been set aside to observe and idolize ghouls and ghosts, werewolves, zombies, swamp monsters, vampires and scantily clad slutty girls who couldn't think of a good costume, I would like so say "rock on." Yes, rock on you silly little toddlers, jammed into your fuzzy teddy bear, bumble bee and monkey one piece costumes that your moms all thought were so cute. Rock on you tenderly awkward pre-teen ninja-worshiping boys who have worn the same Hyabusa costume for the last four years. Rock on you bubbly little teenage mini-divas who refuse to admit that dressing up is and always will be cool. Rock on you beautiful College people in your Legs Avenue pre-packaged "sexy bunny" costumes stalking the parties for that elusive hunk in the cabaret tights and a bow tie. And rock on. Rock on you listless dorks, dweebs, nerds and dungeon masters. You brave millions who bask in the glory of the one night where your +10 attack tunic and Ogre Slaying knife actually make you cool and interesting. The one night where a costume of Optimus Prime made out of painted cardboard moving boxes isn't only applicable at an anime convention. The one wondrous night when that Harry Potter scarf can come out of the closet and net you desperately needed brownie points amongst the cool and the hip. Yes... Rock On Halloweeners. Rock on through the costume season. Brave the drink specials and the bowls of individually wrapped snickers bars in order to find that magical night when everyone from every category, clique and set can come together at a party bar or parking lot and be considered equals. That night when everyones' masks are plain to be seen, and the denizens of ghoulish darkness can all come together and laugh the night away.........

I wish I could understand this celebration a bit more. You know, I'm an English teacher, so in the institute I work on we "celebrate" Halloween with our students. Nobody in this country has any idea of what it is really, and we shouldn't actually because for us is a foreign celebration. I don't like when people here copy American ways and try to impose things on us just because they're American. For you is cool but for us is lame. We are lame when we leave our own culture behind for a 'cool' one. And people here are used learn about American culture from movies.
