I think I'm dying a little on the inside

Tue Sep 22, 2009, 7:50 AM
I'm going to lose my mind. I live in a very old house, and my neighbor who lives on the floor below me has been in this same place since she was a little girl. She has grown old with this house and seen everything around her change with time. When I moved in here a number of years ago, she was a bright-eyed and kind-hearted woman with roots in this neighborhood that went deeper than any tree.

Now, after much heartbreak for those who know her, she has lost a bit of what made her who she was. Old age stole away much of her lucidity and she has become what many would call "senile." She still remains a sweet old woman, but is a bit of a danger to herself at times. Where one she would ring my bell to give me hard candies and home made bread, now she rings the bell because she is terrified of some invisible man lurking nearby, scheming to do her harm. She has started calling me by the name of her long-dead son whom she lost all too early in life, and her eyes are constantly filled with worry and fear.

Lately (in the past year) she has taken to wandering out into the streets aimlessly. Once, she actually got robbed and her son (still alive) decided to get an in home caretaker for her. Whenever the caretaker can't be around, they lock her in her home. Dead bolts on the top of the doors.

I just walked out into the backyard to let my dog do her business and saw Gina staring at me out her kitchen window. She asked me to come to the front door and I did. She pointed at the doorknob and stared at me with longing and sadness deep in her old weathered eyes and pulled on the door, to no avail. She wanted to go out, to see the neighborhood that she loves and visit her daughter who lives across the street but ignores her almost completely. I knew I couldn't open the door, the bolt was on the other side, and it wasn't my place anyways. I shook my head, "no, I can't open the door, Gina."

Her eyes filled with tears and all she said was "please." I had to turn away and go back upstairs. Now, for the last half hour, she has been using all her strength to pound on the walls and doors and scream, crying as she is trapped in her own home. The house (old and hollow) shakes and booms with this sweet old lady's frenzied bid for escape...

It's like this almost every week. I think I'm literally losing my mind. I feel like such a terrible person for living here and doing nothing for this woman, but I know I can't. Somebody... I need a freaking hug.

TAG!

Wed Apr 15, 2009, 7:05 AM
Oceanus Minions is the first installment in a hopefull suite of underwater themed games I want to make. If it does well, there may be add ons, sequels and lots of other games that take place in this world.

I was tagged by :iconmegatronsmith: and must therefor continue the chase!

Rules of tag-

- Post these rules.

- Each tagged person must post 8 things about themselves on their journal.

- At the end you have to choose 8 people to tag, and post their icons on the same journal.

- Go to their page and send a message saying you tagged them.

- No tag-backs.

So I must chose 8 things about me that are.... interesting? Hmmm, that's tough.

1. I have a pretty fun job (I make crappy little flash games for MTV Networks)

2. I recently lost 70lbs and am still going for more

3. I have a little white pit bull named Suki who is gaining weight as fast as I am loosing it!

4. I draw people while I ride the subway. Sometimes they get mad ;)

5. I went through a text book soap opera breakup a while ago that has lead me to question the ways of the universe.

6. If I run in the cold for too long, I develop an annoying whistle when I breathe through my nose.

7. I collect swords and headphones

8. I can sing a mean Johnny Cash at karaoke... as long as I'm full of sake ;)

Ok, now's the fun part. I demand that these lovely Deviants spill the beans!

Oceanus Minions Beta

I've made a little tower defense game in my off time at work (it is here [link] ). Before we post it live, I'd like for some of you to play it and give me your feedback. I did everything on the game aside from the base programming and a couple of details, so anything you say is generally something I can fix. There is one problem I know of that can't be fixed, and that's the way things overlap eachother on the screen.

Right now, I'm tweaking the difficulty. Easy is real easy, but insane is.... well... it's insane. Try them all on for size and report back if you want! :)

Two of the song loops in the game are property of Extreme Music, but the rest of the sound design is all opet source or hand made by me. Two of the projectile animations were lifted from another game in our roster.

As it stands, I think it is waaaay too easy. If you all agre, I shall start tweaking the numbers.

Featuring my Deviant Art friends!

Time to spread the spotlight!

I have seen these things on here before and kind of like them. The first 17 people to reply to this, I'll feature three of their works (of my choosing), but each one of them should make a similar journal to do the same. Seems like a good way to spread the word about all of your awesome art!
